Elon Musk gave an all-in review of his time at Twitter to the podcast “All-In”. He was mildly self-deprecating about his past tenure.

Elon Musk’s tenure as “Chief Twit”, has been marked with apparent snap-of a finger changes and sometimes quick backlash. However, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO seems like he is putting the ups and downs in perspective of growing pains.

He said, “In the beginning we’ll make, obviously… Hey, I just got here,” on Saturday’s “All-In” podcast. He said, “I believe we’ll make fewer gaffes later on.”

Musk instituted mass layoffs, which are still the subject of ongoing lawsuits. He also stopped the implementation of new features such as paid verification. He also pulled back employees who were monitoring content that was disturbing the site. He has been criticised for temporarily suspending the accounts of several journalists.

David Friedberg, an investor, was one of the hosts of the show. He mentioned the controversy surrounding “product iteration”, which is the development of a product or feature. He also referred to some of “negative feedback” from the public about “quick action without communication.”

Musk used a baseball metaphor to tell Friedberg that “We’re going swing for the fences here on Twitter, and it’s going to be done quickly,” even though it might mean having to “strike out more.”

Musk also supported a new feature called “views” that Twitter launched this month to show how many people have seen a specific tweet. Many users were critical of it for cluttering up the interface. It was “a lot harder feature to implement than people would think.”

Musk acknowledged that Twitter still has “a fair amount of bots in it” — something he had apparently used in his attempt to rescind from buying the platform. But he said that he’s taken “a lot of steps” to address the bots. Friedberg also discussed Musk’s influence on tech peers who are fascinated by his solo leadership style, which is unrestricted by the constraints of a board. This phenomenon was recently covered by Insider’s Melia Russ. Musk seemed to admit that absolute power can be dangerous.

He said, “I guess that I’m in a fortunate situation, where I don’t have to answer — the information isn’t public and there’s no board.” I can take drastic actions. Twitter will fail if I make too many mistakes. That would be embarrassing and very sad.”

To lighten the mood, he turned to baseball once more. “As long the batting average remains high, it will be a great tomorrow.”
