Elon Musk demanded the release of Jacob Chansley (QAnon Shaman), who was sentenced for his part in the Capitol riot to 41 months imprisonment.
"Free Jacob Chansley," tweeted Tesla CEO and Twitter Owner, while tweeting a video of Chansley telling protesters outside the Capitol that Trump had said to them to go home.
Musk was retorted by a Twitter user who commented that he was part the "MAGA Movement".
Musk replied, "I'm not part MAGA, but i believe in fairness and justice." "Chansley was wrongly depicted in the media as an aggressive criminal who attempted to overthrow government and encouraged others to commit violence."
"But here he's urging people not to panic and get home. The other video shows him walking calmly in the Capitol Building, being escorted and thanked officers.
Musk spoke of footage Tucker Carlson, Fox News' Fox News host, had recently aired. It has been widely shared on social media. Chansley is seen walking through Capitol Building with officers.
According to the Associated Press, Chansley's claims that police escorted him through the Capitol Building were false. Court documents and video footage clearly show that he entered the building without being accompanied.
Carlson's footage was shown without context, according to the outlet.
Politifact also pointed out that Chansley was repeatedly ignored by Capitol Police officers inside the building, despite his signed plea agreement.
According to the Department of Justice's timeline of events, Chansley was among the 30 first people to enter Capitol Building on January 6, 2021. Chansley sat down on the dais, which Mike Pence, then-Vice President, had just occupied.
After broadcasting previously unseen footage of the Capitol riot, a spokesperson for the White House stated that Carlson was not credible and claimed that it was peaceful.
After photos of Chansley sporting a distinctive horned hairdress and red, blue, and white face paint, Chansley was made one of the most well-known Capitol rioters.
After a plea bargain, he was sentenced to November 2021 for one count of obstruction in connection to his involvement in the insurrection.
