Musk claimed that Twitter had once been a Slack channel where Dr. Anthony Fauci was a fan. This claim was made after Musk criticized Fauci’s role as chief medical advisor to the White House.
Elon Musk claimed Wednesday that Twitter staff had a Slack group that was a fanclub for Dr. Anthony Fauci (the US’s leading infectious disease expert).
Musk’s comments were part of a Twitter thread where he posted links to articles about Fauci. Newsweek also reported on documents that showed Fauci was lying to Congress.
Musk tweeted, “Despite these glaring problems, Twitter nevertheless had an internal Slack Channel unironically named “Fauci Fan Club”.
It was unclear what topic was being discussed on the channel Musk was referring too, nor how many people were involved. Fauci and Twitter did not immediately respond to Insider’s request of comment. This was outside normal US business hours.
Musk later tweeted that he had invited Community Notes to correct or amend his thread. This tool allows users to add context notes and potentially misleading posts to Twitter.
Musk, like other prominent Republicans has criticised Fauci’s handling of the COVID-19 epidemic. Musk is a prominent antilockdown activist. The billionaire has made several allegations against White House chief medical advisor while supporting the GOP and sharing antidemocratic conspiracy theories.
In a tweet, he also suggested that Fauci should face trial. Musk tweeted December 11: “My pronouns were Prosecute/Fauci.”
Fauci will resign as director of the National Institute of Health, and President Biden’s top-ranking medical advisor, he stated in a New York Times opinion piece.
Employees have been cautious about what they post on Slack since Musk took control of Twitter in October. Platformer reported that in November, some Twitter employees began to remove Slack messages from fear of Musk liking them. This report was made after Musk fired several employees for criticizing him on Twitter. He then fired at least two dozen more staff members in an email late at night.
