Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos have been rivals for many years.
Elon Musk has fuelled his rivalry with Jeff Bezos. He responded, apparently sarcastically, that “maybe it’s coincidence” when another entrepreneur suggested Bezos copied his ideas.
Elon Musk continues to disagree with Jeff Bezos.
Musk responded to a tweet suggesting that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos “copies” every business move that he makes, apparently mockingly: “Maybe it is a coincidence.”
Musk responded to a tweet by Kim Dotcom (a New Zealand-based German internet entrepreneur) regarding charges related to Megaupload.com. Dotcom is a prolific Twitter user and interacts regularly with Musk.

Musk has been feuding for 15 years with Jeff Bezos and accuses him of copying. They have many common interests and frequently trade places as the richest person in the world. According to Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index, Musk is currently ranked second, behind Bernard Arnault (French luxury tycoon), while Bezos ranks fifth.
Musk had previously taken issue with Amazon’s announcement of plans to launch more that 3,000 internet satellites. This was in contrast to SpaceX’s Starlink. Musk made the same comment in June 2020, when Amazon purchased self-driving car startup Zoox. This could potentially rival Tesla.
Bezos recently backed Synchron. This company aims to empower people to control their computers using their minds. Bloomberg reported that the startup was funded with $75 million by Bezos Expeditions. Musk is also the founder of Neuralink, a neural-interface company that aims to create a device that can be implanted in a person’s brain to record brain activity, and possibly stimulate it.
They compete in the commercial space market, but it is debatable whether Musk “copied” Bezos. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has been interested in space exploration since childhood. He founded Blue Origin, a spaceflight company in 2000. Musk later founded SpaceX, a commercial space company.
Over the years, the two companies have clashed over patents, lawsuits and rocket launches.
Blue Origin and United Launch Alliance protested SpaceX’s attempt to use a NASA launchpad exclusively in 2013. Musk claimed that the move was a “phony block tactic”. He told Space News that Blue Origin “has not yet succeeded in creating reliable suborbital satellites, despite having spent over 10 years in research.” SpaceX won the battle against NASA.
Musk, 51, appeared to compliment his opponent in a 2020 interview with The New York Times. However, he also suggested that Bezos was too elderly to make progress in space travel, despite the fact that there is only a seven year age gap between them.
Bloomberg was informed Tuesday by insiders that SpaceX offered to sell shares at a price which would increase the company’s value to around $140 billion. Blue Origin is still privately held.
Insider reached out to Musk and Bezos for comment.
