  • Elon Musk recently unveiled the X Brand for Twitter.
  • The platform was greeted with howls of protest.
  • CivicScience's new poll reveals that the response is different.

Elon Musk's X rebranding for Twitter was unveiled earlier this week. The social media platform was awash with complaints. Marketing expert called it "completely absurd."

New polls suggest that the move may not be as bad as it seems.

CivicScience conducted a survey online after the X announcement. It received more than 5,000 responses. This included over 1,000 responses by Twitter users. People who do not use Twitter did not like the new branding. People who use Twitter were more positive.

Nearly a third of those who answered the survey said that they had a reaction negative to the rebrand. This compares to 14% of respondents who were positive.

Those who were active on Twitter in the past six months had a different response: 36% were positive, and 27% were negative. According to CivicScience, 43% of users who use Twitter weekly were positive, and 27% were not.

Even Threads, Meta’s newly launched Twitter competitor, has some good news. Nearly a quarter of those who have used or tried Threads are very interested in using X. Another 28% are somewhat interested. According to CivicScience, 60 percent of people who have used or tried Threads expressed interest in X.

The survey results are certainly limited. CivicScience's survey gathered results from only a few thousand of the 250 million average daily Twitter users. Musk has a large fan base, and some of them may have taken part in the survey. This could have skewed results. Twitter's results suggest it is unlikely to experience a rapid growth spurt.

CivicScience published a blog post about the results of the poll. "Interestingly, the non-users were the most likely to believe that the change was negative. So, at least for now, it is unlikely that X will attract a surplus number of new users."

According to the survey, the future of X is not very promising, even though it might include new services such as banking.

CivicScience found that 40% of daily Twitterers and 51% of weekly Twitter users were not interested in using X, with its new features. "So the move is likely disruptive," CivicScience said.
