Elon Musk stated that there is no successor to his Twitter CEO role. This was before Musk’s comments on the closing of his Twitter poll asking users whether they should remain.
Sunday’s statement by Elon Musk stated that there is no successor for Twitter if he leaves his position as CEO.
A Twitter user assumed Musk had already appointed a new leader. The billionaire responded in a tweet saying that “no one wants to be the person who can keep Twitter alive.” He also stated that he did not have a successor.
The comments were made on the same day he posted a poll asking Twitter followers to vote for him to resign as Twitter’s head. He said that he would “abide” by the results after posting the poll.
The poll closed Monday at 5:00 PM. 57.5% had voted for him to resign as CEO of Twitter.
Twitter did not immediately respond to Insider’s request to comment outside of US business hours.
According to The Verge, Musk previously spoke about the need to sell Tesla stock in order to “save Twitter.” According to Musk, employees were in a “dire” situation revenue-wise and that the platform needed to grow subscriptions due to a forthcoming and serious recession.
If Musk was to step down as CEO of Twitter, it was not clear who would replace him. According to Axios, Musk stated to a Delaware judge that he intended to cut down his time at Twitter and to find a new boss.
Musk continued his tweets Sunday by saying: “The problem isn’t finding a CEO. The question is finding one who can keep Twitter going.” Musk added that “be careful what your wish is, because you might get it.”
Musk tweeted, “Those who want power will be the ones who least merit it.”
It was 53 days since Musk acquired Twitter. Since then, many employees have left the company, new features have been introduced and removed, and celebrities have quit Twitter. There could be a new leader.
