- NBCUniversal snubbed Twitter on Monday by saying that the platform had "just let in all the crazies."
- Linda Yaccarino resigned last week as NBCU’s ad chief in order to become CEO of Twitter, replacing Elon Musk.
- Insider reported that NBCUniversal said the timing of the remark following Yaccarino’s departure was "a complete coincidence."
NBCUniversal took a shot at Twitter on Sunday — just days after NBCU’s top ad executive resigned from the company to join Elon Musk’s social media platform.
NBC unveiled the teddy named Ted, from the 2012 comedy with the same title.
Ted stated in his opening remarks: "TV is true." Who needs Instagram ads? Twitter might seem to be the best place to start, but Twitter has just allowed all the crazies to come back in," said Axios Media reporter Kerry Flynn who covered the event.
Variety reports that the audience laughed at this line. The jokes come in the wake of a high-level executive leaving NBCU. Linda Yaccarino resigned as its ad director last week after nearly 12 years at the company. She joined Twitter. She replaces Elon Musk as the CEO.
Insider reported that NBCUniversal said the timing of the comments with Yaccarino’s departure was "a complete coincidence."
The company stated that "the video was produced before Linda's death was even known."
Twitter's automated response to Insiders' request for comments did not address Insiders' inquiry.
