PETA Calls Out British Paint Company for ‘Exploitative’ Color Names

PETA Calls Out British Paint Company for ‘Exploitative’ Color Names

August 23, 2024 By Peter Leave a Comment

PETA has targeted a high-end British paint company for its use of color names such as 'au lait,' claiming that they promote the exploitation of animals.

PETA's Objection to Paint Color Names

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have called on Farrow & Ball, a British paint manufacturer, to reconsider the names of some of its paint colors to align with a more vegan-friendly ethos. Specifically, PETA highlighted names like "Dead Salmon" and "Smoked Trout," which they argue normalize animal exploitation.

Farrow & Ball's Response

Despite the controversial color names, Farrow & Ball assures that their paints are cruelty-free and not tested on animals. The company, established in 1946, is renowned for its premium and environmentally sustainable paint options.

PETA's Advocacy for Conscious Consumers

Yvonne Taylor, PETA's vice president of corporate projects, emphasized the importance of renaming paints that are currently associated with animal products. She suggested that rebranding these products could attract consumers who prioritize ethical choices.

Controversial Paint Names

Some of Farrow & Ball's paint names, like "Au Lait" and "Skimmed Milk White," have drawn criticism from PETA for allegedly glorifying the exploitation of cows. PETA proposed alternative names such as "Magic Mushroom" for colors like "Dead Salmon."

PETA's History of Advocacy

PETA is recognized for its attention-grabbing campaigns and bold actions. In the past, the organization has targeted prominent figures like Elon Musk and Gordon Ramsay for their perceived lack of compassion towards animals.

While Farrow & Ball has yet to respond to requests for comments on the issue, the company asserts its commitment to sustainability and cruelty-free practices on its official website.

It is clear that PETA's advocacy efforts are aimed at raising awareness and encouraging companies to adopt more ethical practices in their product offerings.
