Although the Chevrolet Bolt EUV may not be the fastest or most stylish EV, it is the cheapest.
After a price reduction, the Chevrolet Bolt EUV was the most affordable electric SUV in America. The Bolt EUV is just over $28,000, and it offers 247 miles of driving range. This makes it one of the most affordable on the market. Chevy loaned me a 2022 Bolt EUV Prime, which would have cost $37,000 after the price reduction.
Electric cars are no longer seen as luxury toys or quirky vehicles for tree-huggers. However, there is one major barrier that prevents potential converts from making the leap: Electric cars are too expensive.
The average American can’t afford an electric car, even though more people are willing to give up fossil fuels. The average household in the US had a $65,000 annual income last month for a brand new, battery-powered vehicle.
There is one bright spot among the ridiculously expensive Teslas and Audis: It’s the Chevrolet Bolt EUV.

It is not a hypothetical affordable EV that will be made one day. (Looking at Tesla. It’s currently available for $28,195 and I was able to test drive it. This is the electric car America has been waiting for.
The EUV, America’s cheapest eSUV with 247 miles range (after a $6,300 price reduction), offers some of the most value for money in the entire EV market. The EUV is outsold by the Bolt, an EV hatchback that costs less and returns 259 mile range.
You should also consider other low-priced EVs. A Mini Cooper electric car will cost you $34,000 but only provides 114 miles per charge. The Nissan Leaf is also available at a starting price of $28,000 but only has a 150-mile range. The most recent generation of electric SUVs by Ford, Hyundai, or Kia start at well above $40,000.
In an era where charging stations aren’t widely available, range and cost are the main concerns of EV buyers. The EUV scores high on both of these.

All that value and range is wrapped up in an SUV package that Americans love. Historically, the cheapest mass-market EVs were always hatchbacks. Americans have rejected them in favor of SUVs in various sizes.
The Bolt EUV driving experience isn’t anything special, but it’s very pleasant. The EUV is quiet and comfortable to drive. Although it doesn’t offer the same acceleration as a Ford Mustang Mach E, the EUV can still accelerate quickly enough to get away from a stoplight thanks to its 200-horsepower engine. Super Cruise is an excellent driver-assist option that allows you to drive the car on highways hands-free.

There will always be some flaws in the cheapest product. Although the EUV isn’t as fast as its pricier counterparts, it can charge in a matter of minutes and can go 95 miles in under 30 minutes. All-wheel drive is not an option. The EUV isn’t fast and the styling is not as striking as those from Hyundai or Kia.
There is a clear demand for EVs that are cheaper. High prices are consistently listed as the number one reason buyers stay away from the EV market, according to surveys. According to S&P Global Mobility’s new study, Tesla is losing market share to EVs at the lower end (sub $50,000), where Musk’s brand does not compete.
The Bolt EUV doesn’t pretend to be a spaceship or speed demon. It brings something more to the table in a warming climate. Electrification of the masses.
