- Tesla customer claims he was "bullied" into accepting delivery of his vehicle earlier than he wanted.
- Tun Bhothinard stated to Insider that he paid $62,440 to buy a Tesla Model Y. It now costs approximately $10,000 less.
- He claimed that Tesla agents had told him that he would lose his reservation if it was not possible to delay delivery until January.
Tesla customer claims he was pushed to take early delivery, which cost him thousands of dollars.
Tun Bhothinard from Chicago told Insider that he purchased a silver Tesla Long Range Model Y for $62,440 in March 2022. He made a $250 deposit and was told he would receive his vehicle in December or March. Insider reviewed his purchase agreement with Tesla.
Surprised to be given a September delivery date, Bhothinard accepted it. He wanted to pay cash but couldn't get enough money to pay on time so he was given a second delivery date in November.
After some research, Bhothinard discovered that he could be eligible for an EV tax credit which took effect at 2023. Bhothinard tried to push back the delivery date, but Tesla was resistant.
Insider reported that he had tried to speak to many members of the delivery team, but they were all robotic and he felt "bullied" into accepting delivery. Bhothinard was also told that he would lose his deposit and have to start the ordering process over again, with a wait of several months.
Price cuts were made in December after the November delivery was "begrudgingly". Bhothinard said that the price of the same model was now $52,990. This is in addition to the tax credits missed.
Tesla reduced the price of Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in an effort to stoke a market that has been declining amid rising interest rates, economic uncertainty and other factors.
Tesla owners, like many others who missed the price reductions and contacted Insider to learn more, have not heard from the company about the possibility of reimbursing Bhothinard.
He stated that he was frustrated at being forced to take delivery of his car prior to his desire: "It feels as if they're going against the values they once had of transparency to the consumer."
He doesn't know whether he will buy another Tesla when the time comes for a new one.
Insider reported Saturday that a Tesla buyer who has yet to receive his vehicle said that the company had reduced his order cost by $12,000, after he complained of not receiving price cuts.
Insider reached out to Tesla for comment but they did not respond.
