- Some people have found a free way to get back their Twitter blue check — but it is only a temporary fix.
- Add the words "former Blue Check" to your Twitter bio.
- Insider, a legacy verified Twitter user, has confirmed that the workaround worked.
Legacy verified Twitter users can temporarily get their blue ticks back by simply adding a few words in their bio.
The blue icon appears beside the user's name for a brief period after adding the phrase "former" or "legacy".
Anthony Carboni, a television personality who tweeted on Monday about the hacking attempt, was among those who used it.

He quickly removed the phrase, saying "How could anyone with any self-esteem have that in their bio?"
David Nemer, professor at University of Virginia reported the same experience. However, he said that it lasted "about five hot seconds."

Taylor Lorenz is a journalist for The Washington Post. She tweeted as well that the fix restores a blue checkmark to one's legacy.
Theo Burman is a journalist who writes for the esports outlet Dexerto. He said that the tick can only be seen by users and not their fans.
Cheryl Teh confirmed that she was able to regain her blue tick after Elon Musk, CEO of Twitter, removed the legacy blue check program on April 1. She wrote "former bluecheck" in her biography.
She noted, however, that the icon disappeared within 30 minutes.
The blue tick program, which was a legacy program, awarded blue checkmarks on accounts that were active and of "public concern", including those belonging to journalists, politicians, celebrities, public figures and other journalists.
Musk has replaced the service with a subscription based one, allowing legacy verified users to keep their checkmarks if they sign up for Twitter Blue.
Twitter's site states that the program costs $8 per month or $84 annually.

Some aspects of Twitter Blue's rollout have also received a lot of criticism.
The platform revealed that many dead celebrities, such as Chadwick Bouseman and Kobe Bryant, subscribed to Twitter Blue despite their death.
This blue tick, which was installed after their deaths on Twitter, falsely claims that: "This account has been verified because the celebrity subscribed to Twitter Blue. They also verified their phone number."
Insider sent an email to Twitter's press department asking for a comment. Insider received an automated response from Twitter, but it did not answer any of Insider's questions.
